Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT)
VCT Flooring must be properly maintained in order to keep it looking good and ensure its durability
Vinyl Composition Tile is frequently utilized in commercial and industrial facilities for high-traffic areas because of its durability, low cost, and ease of maintenance. VCT flooring is extremely durable and able to maintain its quality appearance for many years when properly maintained. Routine floor cleaning to remove debris as well as regular chemical stripping, waxing, and buffing are an important part of a regular VCT maintenance plan. Neglecting to properly care for your VCT Flooring can result in permanent damage that will compromise the overall appearance of your flooring and require pre-mature replacement. Here are some Important Tips
for maintaining your VCT Flooring
Use Walk-Off Mats
Use walk-off mats at all entryways to catch as much debris as possible as people enter/exit the building. Mats should be vacuumed daily and changed on a regular basis.
Sweep & Dust Mop Daily
Removing dirt, soil, and other debris from the surface of VCT flooring helps to prevent damaging the tile finish.
Damp Mop Frequently
Damp mopping involves utilizing a damp mop with neutral cleaner to remove any additional particulate left behind by dry mopping. This should be done at least twice a week at minimum, and depending on the amount of foot traffic, may be needed daily to maintain VCT Floors.
Burnish Floors Weekly
Burnishing floors uses a high speed floor scrubber to produce that high quality shine that makes your floors look great! Make sure that you are using a high speed scrubber with a white pad to produce the desired shine.
Strip Off Old Wax
Over time, the continual wear on the floor surface from foot traffic and cleaning will require that the floor is completely refinished. In most cases this can be expected annually, however frequency can vary depending on location and traffic. Old wax should be completely removed with a chemical stripping agent. Stripping agent should be removed and the floor rinsed with water before moving on to apply new coats of wax.
Apply 3-5 Layers of Wax Finish
Once the stripping agent has been removed, thoroughly rinsed, and allowed to completely dry, the new wax finish should be applied to the floors. It is recommended that a minimum of 3 layers of wax should be applied to properly protect the VCT Tiles. In higher traffic areas, 5 layers of wax should be applied to properly protect VCT Tiles.
